Embodiment

Sometimes you can see where you are going and sometimes you just arrive and look back at the path and it seems obvious.

This new workshop curriculum has been decades in the making and has slowly simmered and elbowed into my work, both in my art and in my teaching style over several decades now. It is just now coming into the light and I am both terrified and extremely excited. I often refer to finding your voice and telling your unique story in the work, but this is a deeper ask, a more vulnerable reach for both myself and the students willing to ‘go there’ with me.

The ideas held within my new workshop series have been woven from my personal, educational and professional experience with trauma and healing. My art has been a tool of expression for understanding and healing of both the past and the present manifestations of pain, transformation, confusion and primarily integration of self. I have shared this journey with many through my art in many forms and through giving others the tools and space for their own expression in bits and pieces.

Now I am taking it to the next level in a more formal curriculum; Embodiment.

‘Embodiment’ is still in its infancy and I am integrating many forms of psychological techniques from Jungian symbolism to Cognitive Behavior Techniques. Using imagery of the body as the scaffolding from which to weave personal symbols into a unique allegory can be a powerful tool of expression and revelation. Finding a multitude of techniques that are accessible to a wide range of artists and non-artists alike has been a long path in experimentation. I know my approach will continue to morph and change as I put this work into practice with different audiences in different circumstances.

Do you want to explore this with me and be part of the evolution as it grows and matures over the next few years? I have many ideas, exercises and techniques I want to integrate and I am also playing with different formats in which to present the material. I believe that excavating this deeper material will be better served in a weekly class vs a long weekend so I have decided to offer three different  versions of the workshop in the next few months to see if this theory is solid.
