RE:collection Artist Talk
In this artist talk and Q&A at Art at the Cave Gallery in Vancouver, WA, encaustic artist and R&F Paints instructor Kelly Williams discusses her Re:collection exhibition inspired by an artist residency in Ireland and answers audience questions about her encaustic teaching practice, workshops, and Portland studio. She covers the what, why, and how behind her Ireland-inspired work, including layering beeswax and pigment, working with fire, and integrating site-specific materials such as peat ash from endangered Irish boglands, water from St. Brigid's holy well, and passages of gold and copper that question what we call precious. Audience questions range from the meaning and materials behind the figurative "torso-islands" and abstract compositions, to examples of what students actually do in her workshops from beginning to advanced levels in her Portland studio. A great watch for anyone curious about encaustic painting, process-driven art, or learning to work with wax, fire, and mixed media.

I got to do a cool ‘conversation’ on a super special podcast called : The Deeper Pulse with Candice Shutter.
“Kelly describes the fascinating, natural mediums through which she works, and how the process of painting offers a therapeutic avenue for the expression of the unspeakable. Kelly now guides students to reveal their secret selves safely, without the risk of unhealthy emotional over-exposure, explaining how art is an object lesson, revealing its maker, and how making a mess (or not) can become a valuable tool for self-awareness and/or social commentary. She and Candice discuss the difference between healthy exposure and performative vulnerability. Candice shares a personal discovery - how trying to be of service to others inadvertently gets in the way of being helpful - and together, they get real about things like imposter syndrome, survivor guilt, and sustaining creative integrity while operating in an online marketplace.

This was going to be the pilot for reality tv show where they match two very different artists with a limited amount of time to create a massive collaboration and exhibit it.
Crossroads Project
I did this video as a fundraiser a while back, but the video is a great capture of my mission, my passion and how I now work with folks wanting to dive deeper using art as a creative expression and therapeutic tool. And.. P:ear is still a super cool organization I support whenever I can.
