Midwinter Creative Immersion: Renewal Through Painting & Process for the New Year
Workshop Overview
As the new year begins and winter deepens, this small-group immersion offers a space to pause, release, and create with intention. Over three days, you’ll explore encaustic and mixed media through the lens of personal process, symbolic materials, and strong technical skill-building.
With only 4–6 participants, you’ll have the benefit of one-on-one guidance, space to work at your own pace, and an environment where there’s room for both bold experimentation and quiet reflection.
Who This Is For
This workshop welcomes both beginners and experienced artists who are ready to:
Deepen your skills in encaustic and mixed media through immersive, hands-on instruction
Work with symbolic, personally meaningful materials—ash, pigment, burnt paper—to weave story and significance into your art
Drop down into your process to release, reshape, and renew your creative voice
Step into the new year with momentum, fresh ideas, and a stronger connection to your work
Create within a small, supportive community where there’s space for both risk-taking and rest
Techniques include:
Encaustic layering, fusing, and carving
Asemic writing and mark-making
Collage with burnt paper, ash, and pigment
Composition and surface development
Integrating personal symbology into your work
We’ll begin with guided writing and a ritual fire (weather permitting) to create ash and collage elements, then embed those materials into your paintings. You’ll leave with finished pieces, new skills, and a deeper connection to your creative voice.
